Auricular, made in collaboration with :zoviet*france: is a multidisciplinary performance inspired by British Sign Language (BSL) sensory processing and communication, that works to construct an immersive, sensory environment through dance.

BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Art and Dance City (UK) commissioned Surface Area Dance Theatre in 2014, and then with additional support from Arts Council England and partnering organisations, Auricular in 2017, toured to CCA: Glasgow, Berwick Visual Arts and Turner Contemporary. “It’s fairly new for BALTIC to work with a dance company, but it has been an incredible experience, and I am sure we will do many other performances if possible… Surface Area has a pretty formidable reputation, so it was an easy decision to bring dance into the very traditional space of a gallery .” (Laurence Sillars, Chief Curator, BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Art (2009-17).

Auricular was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
